Freedom through Unity in the Community
What is the Whitman Freedom Team?
We're a proactive force paving the way for meaningful transformation through our unique Community 10-point Connection Model. This model unites core members of Whitman's community, including leaders, officials, parents, and passionate individuals just like you, bonded by a shared commitment to anti-racism, diversity, and trust-building.
Our Mission?
Love. Inclusion. Trust.
The Whitman Freedom Team works to preserve freedom through unity in the community. Its members meet monthly to explore ways of offering dialogue and support to the entire community with a goal of promoting love, inclusion and trust (LIT) and moving beyond tolerance to embracing, celebrating and sharing our community’s diversity.

A message for Freedom, Tolerance and Justice
As a member of the Whitman Freedom Team, I and the other members of our organization are dedicated to fostering a community environment of freedom, tolerance and justice here in Whitman. Freedom, tolerance and justice, however, are not only action words – to be free, to be tolerant, to be just - but also words that signal our efforts to work against the opposites of freedom, tolerance and justice- against bias, against hatred, against injustice. Sadly, we live in a time when there are too many daily examples of bias, hatred and injustice, and too many examples of anger, meanness and prejudice that flow from these negative words and actions.
Like you, I am sure that we in Whitman often meet those who are angry, mean and prejudiced, whether it is people shouting obscenities while driving, or being mean toward those who are elderly, disabled or new to this country, or refusing to accept differences in language, religion or sexual orientation. It would be nice to return to a time when people were pleasant, happy and kind, rather than seemingly enjoying being cruel, negative and inconsiderate.
January is a month of resolutions and promises to change, usually with respect to weight loss or alcohol consumption, but would it not be great if January became the month where we were all committed to becoming more pleasant, happier and kind. It really doesn’t take much effort to be agreeable to those around you or just put a smile on your face as you walk down the street or treat people with simple respect. How about we all make January a month of personality change where we see only the good in our neighbors.
